Shop Like a Man…or Not.

“This is the men’s section.”

What does that even mean?

If I had a quarter for every time I have gone into a store looking to buy some new dope ass clothes and find that the only place I can look is a tiny rack in the corner, I’d be richer than Bill Gates. Not cute.

And what makes it even worse is seeing how damn big the women’s section is! Sometimes, it’s more than one floor! WHO DO THEY THINK THEY ARE?

This may just be jealousy talking… but seriously, what the heck man!

If you’re a woman, and you’ve tried going shopping for a man in your life, you may have also experienced this solemn adventure. It’s almost a rite of passage that everyone has to experience.

The limitation that this puts on men is really annoying. How are we expected to experiment and find our style when everywhere we go it’s the same thing over and over with barely anything to choose from! James Brown was wrong about fashion when he said this is a man’s world.

But, this is where I want to challenge that.

Why are we confined to one little section? Why are we confined to any section? There is no law book that prohibits us from venturing into the “dangerous territory” known as the women’s section. Once I started realizing that the women’s section has some amazing pieces that are unisex (without being labelled as such), my wardrobe has never been better. I put myself in a tiny box because I was too afraid to venture outside of my assigned section due to social pressure and judgement. How insane is that?

I can’t wait for the day that men and women can wear the same thing, and do the same thing for the exact same rewards.

My winter jacket, I found in the women’s section. And no one can tell. Honestly, people are really impressed by the fact that I went and bought something not from “my section.”

So, here’s my challenge: I dare you, the next time you go shopping, to go to the women’s section and pick out at least 2 pieces of clothing. Now I am not saying that men have to buy dresses unless they want to, but a simple shirt, or a sweater that you like.

Fashion is about pushing the boundaries. It’s about making you feel something, whether you’re conscious of it or not.

I am opening the doors for you…not literally but…whatever. I am inviting you to go and wear whatever the hell you want to. YOU DO YOU. Because who else can do you like you? I can try and be like Hugh Jackman with the huge muscles and buttery voice, But I never will be.

Just look at this guy!

I’m kidding.

Although, sometimes, I wonder what it would be like to wear a dress. Sometimes, ventilation is good if you know what I mean.

Anyways…once you broaden your horizons and grab life by the balls…or at least clothing stores for now…the possibilities are endless.

Enjoy wearing what you want.

BE YOU.

That’s all.

Yona.

First of all, like how you finally made your blog posts immediately visible when someone logs onto your site. It makes your site the perfect combination of fashionable and funtional. Secondly, I love the topic of this post. I’m a woman, but when I go gift shopping for my boyfriend, Dad and brothers, it often frustrates me that the men’s section is so small. I can imagine that men feel this frustration even more so. Your post is also very topical, in a time where Men’s issues are being talked about more and more.
